Talanith started as a group of quotes that were stuck on the walls around the editor's desk. Eventually there were so many that it seemed to reasonable to organize them in some way. Since webmastering is what I do for a living, a website was the natural organizational tool. As with many such projects, what started as a simple idea evolved with time into something more. Quotes have more meaning to me if they are seen in the context of the person who wrote them. Hence biographies were added. Timelines are also in the works. There is no attempt to be comprehensive in the choosing the authors or in documenting all their quotes. The overall focus is on people whose lives have made a positive difference in the world. The quotes themselves are selected for being particularly meaningful in today's world. References are made to more extensive material on each author.

The name Talanith itself does not have any special significance. It came out of an afternoon of brainstorming about interesting names that might work. To my knowledge it has no meaning in any language.
